PLUMBING CONTRACTORS
Plumbing Contractors: Tender Bids, Bills and Material Control
A builder asks you to quote the plumbing for a residential tower. The drawing shows pipe layouts, but the material rate you used last month has changed, and the running bill schedule is vague about when you will be paid.
We help the contractor price, run and collect on bigger jobs: quoting from drawings, material control on site, gang productivity, running bills, retention and separating service calls from project work. That excludes pipe design, pressure or code compliance. A licensed engineer decides those.

The pressures
we often see.
- 01Tender quotes depend on material rates that shift, and a bid priced weeks before award can lose money on pipe and fittings alone.
- 02Pipe, fittings and sanitaryware are issued from the godown to many floors, and wastage or theft shows up only when stock runs out.
- 03Running bills are submitted late because measurement sheets are incomplete, so the builder pays late and your cash runs short.
- 04Retention and final bills are held until snag lists are closed, and snags are discovered only during handover rather than as work proceeds.
- 05Service and leak calls pull your best plumber away from the tower, so both the project and the small customer suffer.
OUR FOCUS AREAS
Where the work
usually starts.
- 01Bill of quantities worksheet built from drawings, with rates and a price validity date
- 02Material issue register by floor and block with daily reconciliation
- 03Measurement and running bill routine tied to site progress each fortnight
- 04Retention tracker with the snag list that holds each release
- 05Gang structure showing lead plumber, helper ratio and piece-rate or daily wage
- 06Supplier credit and rate agreements for pipes, fittings and sanitaryware
- 07Separate team and tracker for leak and service calls
- 08Builder concentration and receivables view reviewed every month
START THIS WEEK
Things you can do
before you call anyone.
- Take your last tower or building project and compare quoted pipe and fittings with what was issued. Write the difference per floor. Use it to fix your next quote.
- Add the date your rates are valid to every tender you submit. Keep a copy of the supplier rate you based it on.
- Hypothetical example: if running bills of Rs 5 lakh go in two weeks late and the builder pays a month after that, your own money carries wages and supplier bills in between.
- Ask your site supervisor to log snags daily, not at handover. Sit with him each Friday and close the oldest ones first so retention can be released.
A PRACTICAL ENGAGEMENT
Start with the priorities
that matter most.
We begin by understanding how your business runs today, find the gaps, and agree the scope in writing. Recommendations are shaped around your team, your resources and your goals.
- A bill-of-quantities template for quoting from drawings with margin visible
- A material issue and floor-wise reconciliation sheet for the site store
- A running bill checklist and calendar that gets measurements signed on time
- A role chart separating tower gang, service team and store keeper
Not the right fit when: Look elsewhere first if the issue is a design fault, a water quality concern or a dispute over a builder's contract that needs an engineer or lawyer.
