ROOFING CONTRACTORS
Roofing Contractor Business: Sheet Costing and Monsoon Planning
A factory owner wants a new shed roof before the monsoon, and he calls on a Friday. Sheet prices have moved, your gang is on another site, and the steel supplier wants an advance you have not yet collected.
We help the owner price, schedule and collect: costing by sheet, purlin and fixing, monsoon-season gang planning, advances against material and stage payments. We leave out structural design, wind loads or work-at-height safety rules. A structural engineer and the site's safety officer decide those.
Discuss your priorities ↗COMMON CHALLENGES
The pressures
we often see.
- 01Sheet and purlin prices change across suppliers and weeks, and a lump-sum quote can lose money by the time the material arrives.
- 02Monsoon deadlines cause everyone to ask at once, and a gang that is stretched across several sites finishes none on time.
- 03Customers pay a small advance but expect the contractor to purchase all steel and sheets, which leaves the contractor funding the job.
- 04Gang members climb and work with little planning, and a day lost to an accident or injury is felt by the whole schedule.
- 05Final payment is held for small leaks or alignment issues found after the first rain, long after the gang has moved on.
OUR FOCUS AREAS
Where the work
usually starts.
- 01Costing sheet for sheet type, purlin weight, fasteners, flashing, labour and transport
- 02Price validity rule tied to the steel and sheet rate on the day
- 03Advance schedule that covers at least the first lot of material before ordering
- 04Gang calendar showing which sites are active, with a cap on sites per lead
- 05Site safety checklist reviewed by the lead before each day's work
- 06Supplier credit terms for sheets, structures and accessories
- 07Post-installation visit after the first heavy rain, booked in advance
- 08Share of work from factories, farms, schools and homes, tracked by payment behaviour
START THIS WEEK
Things you can do
before you call anyone.
- Take the last three roofs you completed and compare quote against real sheet, steel and labour cost. Note where the gap arose and fix the line in your sheet.
- Write a payment schedule on a single page: advance on order, payment on material arrival, payment on erection, balance on handover. Show it before the customer signs.
- Hypothetical example: if a 2,000 square foot roof needs material worth Rs 1.5 lakh and the advance is Rs 30,000, you fund Rs 1.2 lakh until the next stage. Ask for a larger material advance.
- Mark every site on a calendar for the next month and count how many your best lead is expected to cover. If more than two overlap, decide which to move.
A PRACTICAL ENGAGEMENT
Start with the priorities
that matter most.
We begin by understanding how your business runs today, find the gaps, and agree the scope in writing. Recommendations are shaped around your team, your resources and your goals.
- A roof costing worksheet and quote template with an expiry date on every price
- A gang calendar and site-cap rule for the monsoon rush
- A payment stage sheet tying advance, material delivery, erection and final release
- A first-rain visit checklist and a short log of issues found
Not the right fit when: Hold off if the matter is a roof collapse, a safety injury or a structural defect; an engineer, insurer or lawyer should be involved first.
