COMMERCIAL SOLAR EPC COMPANIES
Pricing and Running Rooftop Solar EPC Projects for Factories
A factory owner has three EPC proposals on the table, one of them is the cheapest by a lakh, and the finance head wants payment tied to commissioning. The estimate team had priced panels at last month's rate.
We help EPC owners with the business of the project: costing and margin, proposal terms, milestone billing, material purchase, crew planning and follow-up. We leave aside system design, grid approvals, net metering rules or electrical safety.
Discuss your priorities ↗COMMON CHALLENGES
The pressures
we often see.
- 01Panel, inverter and structure prices change between the proposal and the purchase order, and the margin built into the quote disappears before work begins.
- 02Proposals are long documents sent by email, with no routine to call the factory owner and finance head separately after the technical meeting.
- 03Billing milestones are loosely worded, so payments wait on a document or a sign-off that no one on either side has been assigned to produce.
- 04Site crews move between projects on the same day, and materials meant for one rooftop are found on another, with no record of the transfer.
- 05Job costing is done at the end of a project, so overruns on labour, transport and cranes are discovered after the last invoice has gone.
OUR FOCUS AREAS
Where the work
usually starts.
- 01Proposal costing sheet with material, labour, transport, approvals support, contingency and margin lines
- 02Price validity and material price-lock rule between quote and order
- 03Milestone billing plan tied to documents the client can sign off
- 04Material tracker by project from order through delivery to installation
- 05Crew and site schedule showing who is where each day
- 06Project-wise cost against estimate, reviewed at each billing stage
- 07Proposal follow-up routine for technical and finance decision makers
- 08Handover checklist and maintenance contract offer at commissioning

Things you can do
before you call anyone.
- Pick your last three closed projects and compare estimated cost with actual cost, line by line. Mark which items overran, and by how much.
- Hypothetical example: if a proposal assumed panel cost of ₹10,00,000 and the purchase came to ₹10,60,000, the gap of ₹60,000 comes straight from your margin. Add a validity period to your quote.
- Rewrite your payment milestones so that each one names the document that triggers it and who signs it.
- List this month's open proposals and call the finance contact at each client, not only the plant head.
A PRACTICAL ENGAGEMENT
Start with the priorities
that matter most.
We begin by understanding how your business runs today, find the gaps, and agree the scope in writing. Recommendations are shaped around your team, your resources and your goals.
- A proposal costing template that locks assumptions and shows the margin at each discount level
- A milestone billing schedule with named documents and sign-off owners for each stage
- A project dashboard sheet covering cost, schedule and receivables for every live site
- A proposal follow-up plan for engineering and finance contacts at the client
Not the right fit when: Hold off if the issue is an engineering design fault, a grid or utility approval problem or a safety incident. Those need qualified engineers and the authority.
