JEWELLERY RETAILERS
Jewellery Showroom Owner: Gold Stock, Making Charges and Schemes
A bridal family sits for three hours, tries forty sets, and leaves with a promise to return. Meanwhile, the gold rate has moved overnight and the monthly savings scheme collections are three weeks behind what the book says.
We help you track stock by weight and design, set making-charge and discount rules, and run a scheme payment routine. We work with showroom staff and the accountant until it holds. We keep clear of hallmarking, purity, tax or regulatory matters; the authorities and your professional advisers cover those.
Discuss your priorities ↗COMMON CHALLENGES
The pressures
we often see.
- 01Gold held in stock, advance bookings and old exchange gold are all exposed to rate movement, and the owner has no weekly view of the total.
- 02Making charges and discounts are negotiated by the person at the counter, and the margin varies from sale to sale without anyone tracking it.
- 03Monthly savings scheme collections grow in number and the staff time spent on chasing missed instalments grows with them.
- 04Karigar and workshop accounts mix gold issued, gold returned and wastage, and settlements arrive with disagreements nobody can resolve from the record.
- 05Designs bought in volume for the wedding season may not sell, and old stock is melted or sold at low margin.
OUR FOCUS AREAS
Where the work
usually starts.
- 01Weekly gold stock by weight, with customer advance and exchange gold counted separately
- 02Making charge and discount recorded on every invoice, reviewed by the owner on a fixed day
- 03Scheme register with instalment due date, paid date and maturity month for each member
- 04Karigar issue and return ledger with the wastage allowed and the wastage actually recorded
- 05Design-wise sell-through for the last wedding season
- 06Old gold exchange: weight received, rate applied and who approved it
- 07Showroom security routine, including end-of-day stock count and key custody
- 08Staff incentive tied to margin held as well as to the sale value
START THIS WEEK
Things you can do
before you call anyone.
- Pick one week of invoices. List the making charge and discount given on each sale, and see how much the figures differ for the same kind of piece.
- Hypothetical example: a 20-gram chain carries a making charge of ₹10,000 at list. The counter gives ₹2,500 off to close, so margin falls by a quarter on that sale alone.
- Take the savings scheme register and mark every member who has missed an instalment. Ask one person to call them all this week.
- Ask your karigar for a written statement of gold issued and returned for the month and compare it with your own entries.
A PRACTICAL ENGAGEMENT
Start with the priorities
that matter most.
We begin by understanding how your business runs today, find the gaps, and agree the scope in writing. Recommendations are shaped around your team, your resources and your goals.
- A weekly stock and rate exposure sheet in plain grams and rupees
- A making charge and discount policy card for the showroom
- A scheme collection tracker with a missed-instalment call routine
- A karigar ledger format and a design sell-through review
Not the right fit when: This is not the right moment if a hallmarking, purity or tax notice is pending. A qualified professional and the authority must handle those first.
