CCTV AND SECURITY SYSTEM INSTALLERS
CCTV Installer Business: Site Surveys, Quotes and AMC Renewals
A shop owner wants six cameras by Friday and sends a photo of his wall. You quote from the photo, your technician finds a concrete ceiling and a long cable run, and the margin is gone before the first hole is drilled.
We advise on the commercial routine around installation: the survey, the quote, the technician schedule, the AMC renewal diary and collection of balances. We do not design security systems, recommend equipment brands or build any software. Those choices stay with you and your chosen suppliers.
Discuss your priorities ↗COMMON CHALLENGES
The pressures
we often see.
- 01Quotes are given from photos or phone descriptions, so cable runs, ceiling type and power points surprise the technician on site and the extra work is absorbed.
- 02Cameras, recorders and hard disks are priced by the piece, while labour and cable are guessed, so two similar jobs earn very different margins.
- 03AMC contracts are signed and then forgotten, with renewal dates tracked in one person's memory and visits done only when the customer complains.
- 04Technicians work alone or in pairs across the city with no shared schedule, so a small repair delays a large installation booked for the same day.
- 05Balances stay open after handover because the customer says he will pay once he sees the footage working on his phone.
OUR FOCUS AREAS
Where the work
usually starts.
- 01A survey sheet recording camera positions, cable length, ceiling or wall type, power point availability and network access.
- 02Quotation lines for hardware, cable, labour, conduit and travel, kept separate so margin by line can be seen.
- 03Hard disk sizing and storage days promised to the customer, written on the quote so expectations match.
- 04The AMC register: customer, start date, visits owed, visits done, renewal date and amount.
- 05Technician schedule showing installations, repairs and AMC visits on one board.
- 06Spare stock held on the van, such as connectors, power adapters and hard disks, and a reorder level for each.
- 07Warranty claims against the supplier, tracked by serial number and date of purchase.
- 08Handover checklist signed by the customer, followed by a defined date for the final payment.
START THIS WEEK
Things you can do
before you call anyone.
- Make the survey form: camera count, positions, cable metres, ceiling type, power points. For the next three enquiries, do not quote until a technician has filled it in on site.
- List every AMC customer with the start date, the visits owed and the visits done. Mark those expiring in the next quarter and call them yourself.
- Hypothetical example: you sell eight cameras for ₹X and spend two technician days plus extra cable. Write the true labour and cable cost beside the quote and see what margin remains.
- Pick every job where the balance is unpaid after handover. Call the three oldest and ask when the final payment will be made.
A PRACTICAL ENGAGEMENT
Start with the priorities
that matter most.
We begin by understanding how your business runs today, find the gaps, and agree the scope in writing. Recommendations are shaped around your team, your resources and your goals.
- A one-page survey form that technicians fill in before a quote is issued.
- A quotation template splitting hardware, labour, cable and AMC into separate lines.
- An AMC renewal calendar showing visits due and renewals falling in the coming quarter.
- A handover and payment checklist with customer sign-off and a balance-collection routine.
Not the right fit when: This is not for installers whose problem is a licensing question, an evidence dispute after an incident or a legal complaint over privacy, which need a lawyer or the authority. We do not advise on system design.
