GOLD LOAN AND NBFC LENDERS
Gold Loan Branch Management: Renewals, Auctions and Staff Control
A gold loan matures on a Saturday. The borrower is travelling, the branch assistant has the pledge packet in the locker, and the manager has not decided whether to call, renew or move toward auction. The file sits until Monday.
We help owners and area heads put routines around this: maturity-date calls, branch cash and pledge checks, appraiser accountability and a weekly branch report. We do not advise on lending norms, valuation standards or auction law. Your compliance head, lawyer and the RBI rules decide those.

The pressures
we often see.
- 01Maturity dates are tracked by individual branch staff, so reminder calls depend on memory and a borrower can reach the date without ever being called.
- 02Appraisers and branch managers both influence the loan amount, and the owner has no simple way to see differences in how each one decides.
- 03Cash and pledge packet counts are done by the same staff who handle them daily, which weakens the independence of the check.
- 04Branch managers are measured on disbursement growth, and overdue accounts are reviewed only when the area head visits.
- 05Festival and wedding seasons bring surges in pledges and redemptions, and branches are staffed the same way in busy and quiet weeks.
OUR FOCUS AREAS
Where the work
usually starts.
- 01A maturity calendar for each branch, with a call list prepared a week ahead
- 02Renewal versus redemption versus overdue split per branch, reviewed weekly
- 03Appraiser-wise comparison of loan-to-value decisions to spot outliers for review
- 04Surprise cash and pledge-packet count schedule, and who is allowed to carry it out
- 05Branch staffing in peak weeks around weddings and festivals, and who covers leave
- 06The area head's visit checklist, and whether the same points are checked at every branch
- 07Overdue accounts list with the reason, the last contact date and the next step
- 08Manager scorecard that includes overdue accounts and audit points, not only disbursement
START THIS WEEK
Things you can do
before you call anyone.
- Take one branch and list loans maturing in the next two weeks. Check how many have had a reminder call. The count of uncalled borrowers is your first honest measure of the branch.
- Hypothetical example: a branch has 60 loans maturing this fortnight. Staff have called 22. The manager assigns the remaining 38 across three staff at about 13 calls each and checks on Friday.
- Ask for each appraiser's last ten decisions side by side. Look for differences you cannot explain and discuss them with the appraiser, not as an accusation but as a question.
A PRACTICAL ENGAGEMENT
Start with the priorities
that matter most.
We begin by understanding how your business runs today, find the gaps, and agree the scope in writing. Recommendations are shaped around your team, your resources and your goals.
- A branch maturity calendar and a call-script routine for staff, with a weekly check by the manager
- A branch scorecard with disbursement, overdue, audit findings and customer complaints on one page
- An area head visit checklist and a surprise-count schedule that does not rely on the branch itself
- A coaching session for managers on running the Monday overdue review
Not the right fit when: This is not suited to cases where the issue is a regulatory finding, a fraud investigation or an auction dispute. Those need your compliance team, lawyer or the regulator first.
