AUTOMOTIVE CONSULTING
Business Consulting for Garages, Showrooms and Auto Dealers
The service bay is full on Saturday and half empty on Wednesday. A customer waits two days for a part nobody ordered, and a finance file for a vehicle sale sits with the lender while the buyer asks when delivery is.
Our focus is the commercial side: bay and technician utilisation, job card approvals, parts reorder levels, enquiry and finance file follow-up, and credit from regular customers. Mechanical diagnosis, safety, registration and lending decisions are not ours. The manufacturer, authority and lender hold those.

COMMON CHALLENGES
What these businesses
have in common.
- 01Workshop load peaks on weekends, while expensive technicians and bays sit idle on weekdays, and the customer is never offered a better day.
- 02Estimates on job cards are given verbally, and extra work found during repair is approved loosely, which brings disputes when the customer collects the vehicle.
- 03Parts are ordered after the vehicle arrives, so cars stand in the bay waiting, and a stock of slow-moving parts grows on the shelf.
- 04Sales enquiries are noted in a diary or on a phone, and customers who test-drove a vehicle are rarely called back with a clear next step.
- 05Credit given to fleet customers and regular clients is tracked informally, and old balances are chased only when the owner remembers.
START THIS WEEK
Things you can do
before you call anyone.
- Mark the busy and slow hours in your workshop last week, then offer a slower weekday slot to every customer booking for Saturday.
- Add a line to your job card for customer approval of extra work, with a signature or a recorded message. Use it for every job from tomorrow.
- Hypothetical example: ten vehicles wait an average of two days for parts you could have predicted. List the five parts that caused most waits and set a minimum stock for them.
- List every customer owing money, sorted by age. Call the three oldest yourself and agree a date for each.
Not the right fit when: A vehicle defect claim, a registration or permit problem or a dispute with a manufacturer should go to the manufacturer, the authority or a lawyer.
